Transitiôn village welcomes its first residents
Gatineau, December 23, 2024 – Today is a significant day for Transitiôn Québec as the first residents move into the Village Transitiôn, located next to the former Robert-Guertin Centre. The organization welcomes seven new residents, providing them with a new home just in time for the holidays.
Key Facts
Selection of Initial Residents: Transitiôn Québec prioritized individuals currently living in tents at the Guertin site who do not have access to the continuum of services (such as Gîte Ami or Ami-Chemin).
Gradual Integration: This approach allows for a smooth transition, beneficial for both the residents and the on-site support team.

In January:
- 9 residents on January 7

Updates: To date, 82 individuals have completed the interview process, met the eligibility criteria, agreed to adhere to the Village's code of conduct, and submitted the required documents.
Next Steps: Selection interviews to fill the remaining spots will resume after the holidays.
Project Completion: The full completion of the Village, including landscaping and common areas, is expected by the end of April 2025.
Final Capacity: Village Transitiôn will provide transitional housing for 100 people, nearly half of the homeless community in the targeted area.
Infrastructure: Comprising 85 newly transformed shipping containers, the Village will create a vibrant and secure living environment, the first initiative of its kind in Quebec and the first of this scale in Canada.
Features of Housing Units: Each unit is designed to offer a functional and secure environment, tailored to the needs of individuals experiencing homelessness.
Studios: Individual spaces equipped with a bed with storage, a full kitchen (hot plate, toaster, refrigerator, coffee maker, dishes), a toilet and monocoque shower with flow control, and a secure access system (facial recognition or digital key via 1Valet technology).
